How to protest in DeWitt County

  1. Find your property in the DeWitt County Appraisal District records (link above).
  2. Note your appraised value and living area, then look at comparable homes in your neighborhood (similar size, age, and quality). If your value per square foot is above the comparable median, you have grounds for an unequal-appraisal protest under Texas Property Tax Code §41.43(b)(3). You can also protest on market value with your own evidence (condition issues, repair estimates, a recent purchase price, or an independent appraisal).
  3. File online through the CAD portal above, generally by May 15 (or 30 days after your notice, whichever is later).

We don't yet have the automated evidence generator for DeWitt County, we currently build full comps evidence for Harris, Fort Bend, and Galveston. It's on the roadmap to add more. In the meantime the steps above walk you through protesting DeWitt County yourself.

Online-protest availability was compiled from public sources (July 2026) and can change each year. Confirm on the DeWitt County Appraisal District website before relying on it. HelpMeProtest is independent and not affiliated with any appraisal district.
