Protest deadlines in Texas
When you can file — and when it's too late.
The general rule
For most Texas homeowners the deadline to protest the year's appraised value is May 15, or 30 days after your appraisal notice was delivered — whichever is later. Your notice states your exact deadline; when in doubt, use the later of the two dates. Some appraisal districts accept late filings for good cause, but there is no guarantee, so treat your deadline as final.
Valuation notices are typically mailed April–May. The protest window for the current year opens when notices go out and closes at the deadline.
