Terms of Service
Last updated: July 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using HelpMeProtest (the “Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service.
2. What HelpMeProtest is
HelpMeProtest is a free, self-service informational tool. We compile public-record data from county appraisal districts (see Counties & data sources) and produce an automated comparable-property analysis and a draft written argument to help you prepare and file your own property-tax protest.
3. What HelpMeProtest is not
- We do not provide legal, tax, financial, or appraisal advice.
- We are not a law firm, attorney, certified appraiser, or a registered property tax consultant, and no attorney-client or other professional relationship is created.
- We do not represent you, act as your agent, negotiate with any appraisal district, file protests on your behalf, or appear before any Appraisal Review Board.
- We are an independent service and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any appraisal district, taxing authority, or government agency. Names and marks of appraisal districts are used only to identify the source of public data.
4. Your responsibilities
- You are solely responsible for reviewing all information, deciding whether to protest, and filing your own protest through the appropriate appraisal district.
- You are responsible for verifying that the property details and values shown are correct, and for the accuracy and truthfulness of any information you submit to an appraisal district, including any condition or market statements you enter into the Service.
- You are responsible for confirming and meeting all filing deadlines.
5. No guarantee; accuracy of data
Comparable analyses, value estimates, and any estimated tax savings are automated estimates built from public data that may be incomplete, out of date, or contain errors. We make no representation or guarantee that you are over-assessed, that a protest will succeed, or as to any amount of reduction or savings. The Appraisal Review Board makes the final determination.
6. Deadlines
In Texas, property-tax protests are generally due by May 15 (or the next business day), but deadlines can vary by county and year. You are responsible for confirming and meeting all deadlines. We are not liable for any missed deadline.
7. Acceptable use
You may use the Service only for your own lawful, personal property-tax protest purposes. You may not scrape, crawl, bulk-download, resell, or redistribute the underlying datasets or the Service's output; use automated means to access the Service; attempt to disrupt or gain unauthorized access to the Service; or use the Service to harass others or violate any law.
8. Intellectual property
Underlying property and appraisal data are public records owned by their respective sources. The Service's software, design, text, and the format of its generated materials are owned by HelpMeProtest. You may use the materials generated for your own property for your own protest.
9. Third-party links and services
The Service links to appraisal-district portals and other third-party sites. We do not control and are not responsible for those sites or their content, terms, or privacy practices.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, HelpMeProtest and its operators will not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any lost savings, increased assessment, missed deadline, or reliance on the Service's output, whether based in contract, tort, or any other legal theory, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. The Service is provided free of charge; because the amount you have paid us for the Service is $0.00, to the maximum extent permitted by law our total aggregate liability to you for any and all claims relating to the Service will not exceed that amount.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless HelpMeProtest and its operators from any claim or demand arising out of your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
13. Changes
We may modify or discontinue the Service, and may update these Terms, at any time. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Venue for any dispute lies in the state or federal courts located in Texas.
15. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect.
